Working in the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory at UConn Storrs is serious business... and lots of fun. At the CVMDL, students have the chance to gain hands-on research and diagnostics experience in animal health, food safety, and infectious diseases. Students work on projects involving veterinary pathology, bacteriology, and virology.

The Korey Stringer Institute in the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources (CAHNR) has opened its first satellite location at the University of North Florida. The Perry Weather Heat Lab will be a hub of research on how extreme heat affects the body, informing real-world protocols and policies.

The lab’s opening on May 18 brought together university leaders, researchers, community partners, and athletes on campus in recognition of a new chapter in a national effort to ensure no one dies from a preventable heat-related illness.

The Perry Weather Heat Lab at UNF is KSI’s first expansion beyond UConn, driven by Jacksonville’s year-round heat, large military presence, growing professional sports ecosystem and significant outdoor labor workforce.

The new Perry Weather Heat Lab is designed to advance the science of thermoregulation, performance, health, and safety through controlled environmental testing

Although Connecticut is the third smallest state in the nation, it is home to more than 2,700 miles of mapped trails (and counting) and three National Recreation Trails. To help you plan your next excursion, the UConn CT Trails Program project team, including Department of Natural Resources and the Environment (NRE) associate professor Anita Morzillo and Center for Land Use Education and Research (CLEAR) geospatial educator Emily Wilson, have made the process much easier with an easy to use, free resource called CT Trail Finder.

Due to human development and climate change, tidal wetland areas have been shrinking globally. A new study using 40 years of satellite data shows that this loss has been accelerating in the U.S. and that this acceleration is being increasingly driven by extreme weather events.

This work was led by Xiucheng Yang, a former UConn postdoctoral researcher and current senior research fellow at the University of Victoria, and Zhe Zhu, an associate professor and director of Global Environmental Remote Sensing (GERS) Laboratory in the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment in the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources (CAHNR). The study was published in the journal Nature Communications.
