Ashley Soto presented her POLS Honors thesis at the Annual Meeting of the New England Political Science Association. Her project “More than Mask: How South Korea Leverages Private Industry to Cultivate Global Power through Beauty and Culture.”

POLS Honors alumni give back to UCONN POLS in many wonderful ways. This fall Alan Bennett, Dan Fata, Jessica Weaver, (all pictured below) along with John Hudak, and Jeanne Zaino (not pictured, sorry) came back to campus. Isbaah Khan has defended her thesis "When the Rivers Dry: How Water Scarcity in South Asia is Threatening Human Security." Working with Professor Griggs, Isbaah looks at how climate change is upending shared water resources between Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh and fueling nationalist conflict and argues that governance treaties need updating to deal with these challenges. Eleanor Gelb has defended her honors thesis "Native Spaces: The Struggle for Colleges to Incorporate Native Frameworks into Curriculums." Working with Professor Grande, Eleanor explored the history of universities deliberately erasing Native traditions and practices and then explored best practices from universities that have large Native populations to see how Universities can help Native students succeed. This project is designed to inform policies being considered by UConn Avery Point. Congratulations Eleanor!
