Introducing polls to the UConn Dining Services can be extremely beneficial to UConn and its community. By polling we can find what students want to eat and provide more of these foods and less of what students do not like. If there is more food that students enjoy then it will cut down on food waste as they will eat more of what they are taking and not wasting food that they will not enjoy. Food insecurity can be helped by this as often students will not eat at the dining halls if there is nothing they like. If students can choose what they want to eat then they will go to the dining halls more often and not choose to simply not eat there if the choices are not what they eat.

Throughout our survey we have concluded from responses from students that the food at the dining hall is adequate for most students but lacking for some. The survey has found that students enjoy options like the union better than the dining halls. We have found that students will use the dining services social media. This can promote positive change in our dining halls as having students respond to our social media will allow their feedback to influence new dining hall changed. By finding out new data from all of our students it will allow students to get the change they want as we can see through the surveys what exactly we need to change.

Customer satisfaction is always an important issue at hand especially in a college dining hall setting where students are eating most or all their meals. Having students feel satisfied with their dining can make their college experience feel more homelike and enjoyable taking away from the stresses related with school. One survey conducted by researches at Oklahoma State University where they found that "Fifty-five percent (55%) of the respondents were satisfied with the overall feelings of services provided by the food court. Thirteen percent (13%) of the respondents were not satisfied and the remainder (31.7%) were neither satisfied nor dissatisfied. (Kim, 104) This correlates to a survey that I conducted where I found that none of the students surveyed were extremely satisfied and most felt about average about the satisfaction of the dining services. This shows that there is much room for improvement and that we can incorporate student feedback on our Facebook platform for positive results. While the study conducted is from a different school they have a similar food rating to UConn. This shows that improvement is needed in not only UConn but many dining halls in colleges across the country.

The health and wellness of our students and staff has always been a priority of ours. Providing healthy options as well as encouraging students to learn about the effects of eating and not eating different food groups are important. Researchers from the University of Toronto mentioned that "The diets of university students have been shown to be low in fruits and vegetables and high in calories, sugar, fat, and sodium and do not meet nutrient recommendations. (Scourboutakos, et al, 457) We feel the need to implement new changes and expansions that work to serve healthier food and provide more information about nutrition to our students. By providing healthier options we make it so that students always can find an easy way to be healthy when eating at the dining hall and providing nutritional information can steer students in the right direction of what and how much of certain food group is healthy to consume. Students can look at nutritional information that is provided on the MyUConn app. This can help them understand what they are eating allow them to make choices related to healthy eating. By providing more food education we can create happy and healthier students by pointing them in the right direction of how to make smart food choices.
