Sandra is an educator, a future doctora, and immigration and education advocate. In the past five years, she has worked as a Heritage Spanish High School Teacher in the Fox Valley area, where she saw the need to assist with students affected by immigration and educational access issues that have impacted their academic experience and therefore, hold educational stakeholders accountable. She is the oldest daughter of Salvadoran migrants, having fled the country’s civil war in 1992 while her mother was three months pregnant with Sandra. She is the first in her family to pursue a doctoral program and the first in her family to graduate from university in the U.S. Currently, Sandra is a Ph.D. student at Illinois State University, studying educational administration & foundations in order to pass on knowledge to her community and ultimately work with students as they navigate opportunities for advanced degrees.
