A massive congratulations to the historic first graduating class of our Mechanical, Electrical, and Information (MEI) Data Center Operator program in Abilene!

These 12 incredible students dedicated 224 hours over 15 weeks—balancing their evenings from 6–10 p.m.—to learn everything it takes to succeed as a data center operator. What started as an inspiration from a Virginia college campus in March is now a reality. Today, these graduates join the TSTC family as vital contributors to the Texas workforce.

The future of this program is brighter than ever. We are thrilled to announce that Google is investing more than $3.6 million to launch the first-of-its-kind MEI Data Center Academy at our Abilene campus on U.S. Hwy. 80. This investment is made through Google’s STAR Promise, which focuses on building strong, skilled trades training right here in our community.

While full Academy classes officially kick off in 2027, you can jumpstart your career much sooner. Keep an eye out for registration details for our next cohort, starting this September 2026.

268 miles. Every single Wednesday. 🚑💨

That’s the distance third-semester paramedic student Morayma “Ray” Mireles travels from Springtown to Texas State Technical College’s Brownwood campus. And that doesn't even include her clinical rotations or her shifts working as an EMT for Sacred Cross EMS!

Why do it? In Ray’s words: “Every mile is worth it.”

Though she initially feared getting into medicine, a pivotal moment watching a medical helicopter land changed everything. When self-doubt crept in about returning to school, the tight-knit, supportive faculty at TSTC made sure she knew she wasn’t just a number.

Now, she's crushing her hands-on training (including some unforgettable labs!) and bringing a wave of positive energy to her entire cohort.

🎸 Fun fact: How do you survive a 268-mile commute? Ray's soundtrack of choice is a mix of hard rock classics like Pantera and Megadeth, balanced out with some Fleetwood Mac.
