Ever wonder what being a hatchery intern is like? Sam Grella can tell you!
Sam, who's working towards her B.S. in Aquatics and Fisheries, was hired as an intern for the Town of Oyster Bay this summer doing duties like stock tank cleaning, shellfish sorting, silo construction, barrel stocking, and shellfish seeding. Did you know that these seeded shellfish filter between 24-50 gallons of water per day depending on the species?
She was able to learn about the connection humans have with aquatic systems, as well as understanding the work that goes into the maintenance of environmental programs and marine conservation. Go, Sam!
