Hey Lutes this is a great opportunity to get involved with the Department of Natural Sciences. We started to fill out our passports, have you?

Have you joined NatSci Fellows yet? If not, stop by Rieke 158* or Morken 252* to pick up your passport booklet. Then attend events to collect stickers!

*Just so you know, in addition to the passport booklets, Christine and Elizabeth have candy in their offices. 🤫

Here is our second bio post featuring our vice president, Jennica Kelm. Here is a little more information on her!

Q: What year are you?
A: Senior

Q: What are you majors/ minors?
A: I am a chemistry major with a business minor

Q: What research experience have you had?
A: I spent the past summer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, CO. My research focused on dye-sensatized solar cells. Current DCCS's produce one electron (electron hole pair) for one photon, but I was doing research on dyes that can produce two electrons (electron hole pairs) for one photon of light. This would essentially double the photocurrent and raise the efficiency of solar cells. If you are curious to learn more about internships within a government lab, I am happy to answer any questions.

Q: What are your career goals/ passions/ interests?
A: I plan on attending grad school after graduation then I hope to continue solar cells research either at a government lab again or with a company.

Q: What is your favorite part of chemistry club or what do you most look forward to?
A: I look forward to meeting new members and sharing my tips for succeeding at chemistry.

Q: What is your favorite demo?
A: Anything that involves fire or blowing things up.

Q: What piece of advice would you give to an underclassman?
A: Step outside your comfort zone and explore areas of chemistry you didn't think you would like. You might not know exactly what you want to do with your degree, but knowing what you don't wanna do is equally as important.
