Spanish is the second most widely spoken language in the world and the second language of the United States. In our society, knowing Spanish is not just an asset; it is increasingly a necessity. The Spanish Language and Cultures (previously Hispanic Studies) major and minor enable students to develop advanced Spanish skills while acquiring a solid background in the complex history, literature, cul

tures, and intellectual traditions of Spain, Latin America, and the Latino-U.S. Moreover, you will study with a diverse group of faculty members whose research interests infuse their classroom teaching. They engage students in lively discussions, consistent development of written linguistic skills, deep critical questioning and creative thinking, and a broadening awareness and understanding of cultural diversity. One of the hallmarks of this major is a close relationship with faculty, who are devoted to mentor and guide students so that they succeed at UWT. In addition to being an engaging academic pursuit, the Hispanic Studies major will open up doors after UWT. You'll be able to tap into a large array of career possibilities, including teaching, translation, marketing, law, government, public policy, publishing, the health professions, criminal justice, business, finance, and social work to name a few.
