“We’ve always been here, and we will always be here.”
Dr. Danica Sterud Miller, UW Tacoma associate professor and member of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians, centers her scholarship of Indigenous voices through the lens of sovereignty and storytelling.
Miller has co-curated the exhibition "This is Native Land," which opened this weekend at the Washington State History Museum.
The long-awaited exhibit brings Native history, sovereignty and contemporary stories to life — past, present and future.
From contemporary art to oral histories to hands-on experiences, "This is Native Land" was curated to validate Native stories and invite all of us to see the South Sound through Indigenous eyes.
Miller's work bridges ancestral ways of learning with the modern classroom and the museum space, showing how history, culture and community are connected, and why it matters to everyone who walks these lands today.
