Join in for the launch event for the International Decade of Indigenous Languages hosted by Cherokee Nation and Global Indigenous Languages Caucus! Events can be accessed virtually through link and take place January 5-7. Check link for itinerary.

On December 18, 2019, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed an International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022-2032) as a follow up to the International Year of Indigenous Langauges (2019).

If you are looking for an online community language class that is not for college credit Cherokee Nation’s online fall classes will start soon.

Have you ever wanted to learn the Cherokee language? We have the perfect opportunity!

The Cherokee Nation Language Program is offering a free online fall Cherokee language course with Ed Fields beginning September 14 through November 19. Class registration opens August 31!

Congratulations to our graduates, David Bender, Railey Eastwood, and Sara Hays, for their selection to the Cherokee Language Master Apprentice Program. We wish you all the best as you continue forward!

Great visit yesterday with staff and new participants in the Cherokee Nation Master Apprentice Language Program. The new participants are beginning a two year journey towards fluency in the Cherokee language and are key to revitalizing our language and saving it for future generations.

NSU Students are eligible to apply for the North Carolina Spring Student Trip from March 24-29, 2020. Travel and lodging expenses are paid by the Northeastern State University College of Liberal Arts. Students will visit historic sites, the Museum of the Cherokee Indian, the Qualla Art Cooperative, participate in an ethnobotany hike led by Cherokee speaker Gil Jackson, and take part in the Western Carolina University Cherokee Language Summit! Do you want to teach Creek language for NSU? Does someone you know want to teach Creek language at NSU? If so, there is a part-time position available! The job is available through NSU HR and I’ve very helpfully included the link here. Please share with anyone you think may be interested.

Note: It is possible to hold classes at the Broken Arrow campus if that works better for the instructor.
