Congratulations to our very own Matt Dorr, Spring 2020 MA Graduate! Here's what Matt has to say about his experience at NSU:
I plan on spending the next four years at Bowling Green State University in Ohio working on my PhD in Communication – Media Audiences & Processes. Once I finish my doctoral studies, I plan on continuing instructing, as teaching has become a passion of mine. Working with the Communication department at NSU has helped me prepare for my upcoming studies as well as my future career by giving me the opportunity to work as a graduate assistant. I was able to gain valuable teaching experience and guidance from communication professors who are truly passionate about both teaching and research.

Our student is doing a wonderful job! Matthew Dorr is helping an undergraduate student prepare her speech in the Communication Lab.

🎬Behind the Scenes:

Brynn Winters prepares for her upcoming speech with help from Matthew Dorr in the Communication Lab.

Students at the NSU Tahlequah campus can enjoy free assistance with speech preparations. The NSU Department of Communication & Media Studies Communication Lab offers one-on-one time between an undergraduate student and a graduate assistant to go over speech outlines, verbal delivery and answer any questions the student may have.

“I enjoy working in the lab a great deal,” said Dorr, Communication Lab graduate assistant. “I get to meet with students from a diverse range of backgrounds and majors, as well as assist them with meeting their goals. I also get to learn a lot about different topics, which students pick to speak about during informative and persuasive speeches.”

Students can book 20-minute sessions with a lab assistant and during these appointments, students receive feedback and guidance for the real deal – a graded speech in their class. The Communication Lab is located on the second floor of the Journalism Building.

Professors can require students to attend the Communication Lab, however, this service is open to all students. Students are welcome and encouraged to book as many appointments as they’d like and do not have to be enrolled in an oral communication course.

For more information, email Dr. Sarah Turner McGowen at [email protected] or book an appointment at https://nsucommunicationlab4219.setmore.com/.
