Talladega College Athletics Wins 2026 HBCU Athletic Conference Howell Cup! 🏆

Talladega College Athletic Department has been named the winner of the 2026 HBCUAC Howell Cup at the HBCUAC Summer Conference Meetings in Dallas, Texas.

The Howell Cup is awarded annually to the conference athletic department that demonstrates the highest level of competitive success across all sports throughout the academic year. Talladega College earned the honor after winning more conference championships than any other institution in the HBCUAC, while also receiving valuable points from multiple runner-up finishes throughout the year, showcasing the strength and depth of one of the conference’s most competitive athletic departments.

Talladega captured conference championships in Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Soccer, Traditional Cheer, and Baseball. The Tornadoes also posted runner-up finishes in Women’s Basketball and Men’s and Women’s Track & Field.

Every championship-contending program except cheerleading advanced to their respective NAIA National Tournament, highlighting the department’s success on both the conference and national levels.
This achievement reflects the dedication, hard work, and competitive excellence of our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and supporters throughout a historic year for Tornado athletics.

A Giant Leap for Technology at Talladega College

In 1966, we received our first computer, the Burroughs Datatron 205 digital computer. It was so massive that it had to be lowered by crane into the basement of Sumner Hall.

At the time, this machine represented the cutting edge of innovation. It filled an entire room, required specialized operation, and introduced students to one of the College’s first digital computer science courses.

Today, the smartphones in our pockets are exponentially more powerful than this room-sized computer. We now live in a world of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and instant access to information that once seemed unimaginable.

What once required a crane can now fit in your hand.

Even in 1966, we understood the importance of preparing students for the future. From the Datatron 205 to today’s AI-powered world, innovation has always been part of the Dega story.
