A Seminole Torchbearer carries on the Legacy of Leadership – the sum total of the difference that a leader makes in people’s lives – that was acquired while attending The Florida State University. It is this leadership legacy that is the foundation upon which our great university was built and is exemplified by a Seminole Torchbearer. The Seminole Torchbearers in 1986 began formally recognizing th
ose alumni who were student leaders during their time on campus. Since then, over 5,500 alums have been inducted into this prestigious group. Today, under the direction of Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Mary Coburn, that group has expanded to recognize current students. Each year approximately 200 junior and senior student leaders are invited to join this elite group. The Seminole Torchbearers is governed by a Board of Directors, made entirely of Torchbearer members from across the country. Board members continue this Legacy of Leadership by being prestigious leaders in their communities. In addition to recognizing student leaders, the Board of Directors serves as the primary fundraising board for the Vice President for Student Affairs. The 2012-2013 Chair is Rachel Hedge and the Chair-Elect is Kim Field.
