Florida State University's Center for Demography and Population Health offers one of only a few one-year Master of Science in Demography programs in the United States.

Because of its small cohort size and close faculty-to-student ratio, students receive personalized instruction, further preparing them for their Demography careers.

Charles B. Nam, Ph.D., the founding director of FSU’s Center for Demography and Population Health, was prominently featured in a documentary produced by Westminster Communities of Florida titled “From Shore to Shore: A Living Legacies Project,” which was released on Memorial Day.

The documentary interviewed 4 WWII veterans and residents of Westminster Communities in Florida, focusing on the stories of their outstanding service to the United States during WWII and beyond. Highlighting themes of lifelong dedication, selflessness, and strength, the documentary also followed their lives after returning home, where they became impactful educators, mentors, and leaders.

“The thing I am most proud of about my experience at Florida State University is the success of the population center and its reputation nationally and internationally,” Dr. Nam said.

Our Joint Pathway in Planning and Demography allows students to earn the Master of Science in Demography (MSD) and Master of Science in Planning (MSP) through one integrated program.

With joint faculty advising and a cross-disciplinary curriculum, students graduate ready to tackle real-world challenges at the intersection of urban planning and demographic research!

Our Master of Science in Demography program offers courses from a multitude of disciplines! In addition, students receive individualized support from faculty, who prioritize their unique needs as they navigate the program.

The program is designed to be completed within one calendar year! Students begin the program in the Fall semester and graduate the following summer, and they must complete at least 30 semester hours to earn the M.S. in Demography degree. Degree candidates complete 27 semester hours of coursework along with 3-6 semester hours dedicated to a Master’s Research Paper.
