"At the Florida State University College of Medicine, we are interested in producing physicians and scientists who are caring practitioners of both the art and science of medicine. That process starts with choosing the right students - people who will work well with their patients and the entire health-care team. After carefully selecting our students, we immerse them in a culture that embodies th

e characteristics we expect to see in our graduates. in biomedical sciences programs, FSU students learn in an environment that values diversity, mutual respect, teamwork and open communication. They also actively participate in an innovative curriculum that prepares them to become lifelong learners in an era of explosive growth in medical knowledge and information technology." - Dean John Fogarty, M.D.

Three of our faculty members and three medical students recently published research in Public Health Reports examining adolescent e-cigarette use.

The study was led by Karen Geletko, MPH, Jon Mills, Ph.D., and Jeffrey Harman, Ph.D., with contributions from medical students Natalie Dix (M.D. Class of 2026), Meghana Bomma (M.D. Class of 2028), and Aidan Price (M.D. Class of 2028).

The researchers found that raising the minimum legal age to purchase to***co and ni****ne products may help reduce and prevent e-cigarette use among adolescents, highlighting the importance of continued research on the long-term effects of To***co 21 policies and how they interact with other public health interventions.

Nicolette Castagna and M.D. student Mallory Eisel presented the findings from Malloryโ€™s summer research project and highlighted the initiatives our Department of Geriatricsโ€™ HRSA funded GWEP grant is implementing to improve age- and dementia-friendly spaces throughout the state of Florida. This project identified strategies that libraries can take to better support individuals living with dementia and their care partners. Next phases of this work will enhance libraries access to education and training resources for communication skills, accessible environment, and community-based programs and partnerships to strengthen dementia-capable ecosystems.
