University of Pennsylvania Sailing Team

University of Pennsylvania Sailing Team The University of Pennsylvania Sailing Team. The University of Pennsylvania Sailing Team has a long tradition of excellence in inter-collegiate sailing.

Founded in the early days of collegiate sailing, Penn continues to compete at the highest levels of college sailing to this day. Throughout the club's history at Penn, it has achieved much success -- in the 1970s, when the men's basketball team was making news by winning Ivy titles and reaching the Final Four, sailors like Robert "Jack" Lefort Jr, and 12-time national champion Cory Fischer Sertl w

ere competing with success against powerhouse teams like Navy, the Merchant Marine Academy, Yale and Harvard. Penn still competes against these teams, and despite many years in obscurity has in the past decade regained prominence on the national collegiate sailing stage; most notably making the ISCA Nationals in '08 and '09. The Penn Sailing Team is currently a Club sport at the University of Pennsylvania. While we are not a varsity program, we still compete against all the best varsity and club programs from across the nation. Penn is a member of the ICSA MAISA division (Mid-Atlantic Inter-collegiate Sailing Association). Penn Sailing is the top club team in the Mid-Atlantic division having won the MAISA Club Championships in '09, '10, '11, and '13. Our sailing facilities are located at The Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia; a short drive from Penn's campus. Our fleet consists of nine FJs. The team practices in the waters of the Delaware River. Penn competes in both the Fall and Spring collegiate sailing seasons and sails both sectional and intersectional regattas. With the 2025-2026 season over, we’d like to properly thank our seniors: Adra Ivancich, Cole Woodworth, and Eva Gonzalez-Whitehouse. They have been pivotal players for the team but, and more importantly, the most exceptional teammates. It is hard to imagine a team without them, but we are so proud of the four years they gave Penn Sailing and are so excited to see what the future holds for each of them! ❤️💙

YOUR Quakers go 6th at Open Fleet Race Nationals👊👊 This is the best we’ve placed in program HISTORY!

This regatta has been the definition of a roller coaster, from not even knowing if we would qualify for finals, to being in third for most of the day, and, as so often with sailing, our finish was decided by the slimmest point margins. We are so proud of our performance, and continue to look ahead as we will only work harder to get on the podium next year.

The biggest thank you to our three graduating seniors, all of which competed at Open and Women’s Nationals. To Cole Woodworth, Adra Ivancich, and Eva Gonzalez-Whitehouse, this team won’t be the same without you.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us this season! What a fantastic end to a record-breaking season. For now, the Quakers will enjoy a (hopefully) relaxing summer break. As always, Gooo Quakers!❤️💙
