The Art + Design Department at the University of Tampa is excited to announce that we are now accepting submissions for our 2027 Meridian Scholar Program! This two-week residency is open to all creative practitioners eager to manifest a new project in collaboration with Art + Design students and faculty. Applications are due Aug. 21!

So much amazing work coming out of our Foundations Studio Class! From immersive, larger than life inflatables to wearable sculpture, we are completely blown away and can’t wait to see what y’all do next! 😍😍🥰🥰

Congratulations to Art Therapy Student Anna Popham and Graphic Design Student Ana Sofia Perez for showing their works at the Collegiate Student Art Showcase during Ringling Underground earlier this month!

In partnership with the Arts & Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County and developed by Camilo Loaiza Bonilla, 2025–2026 Eleanor Merritt Fellow at The Ringling, this special program featured artwork by student artists from six Tampa Bay–area colleges and universities, showcasing a wide range of emerging creative voices.

Please join us THIS FRIDAY, April 17, from 2-4pm, in the Ferman Center for the Arts (2nd floor gallery), to celebrate the culmination of visiting artist and Meridian Scholar Mabel Poblet’s residency at the University of Tampa.

We’ll unveil her latest site-specific installation, Fragments of Memory, created in collaboration with students and faculty from the University of Tampa’s College of Arts and Letters!

No prior registration is required; the event is free and open to the public. Please invite your friends and networks to join us!

Join the Art + Design Department in welcoming our 2026 Meridian Scholar, Mabel Poblet, who will be in residence at UTampa from April 6-17, 2026!

Poblet (b. 1986; Cienfuegos, Cuba) is renowned for her immersive installations that have been exhibited around the world. Her new site-specific work, Fragments of Memory, will be unveiled at the University of Tampa in April. This work, composed of mirrored surfaces as well as light projections sourced from participants’ photographs, videos, and actions, imagines a “suspended territory where the intimate and the collective meet.”
