Congratulations to Elizabeth Hines of our USF Department of History, recipient of Oxford Academic (Oxford University Press)’s Early Career Researcher “First Book Prize” for 2026 for her book 'War in the Time of Anglo‑Dutch Empire, 1595–1652.'

The committee recognizes her fresh interpretation of early modern empire, showing how English and Dutch ventures were financially and religiously intertwined — “in many ways, an Anglo‑Dutch empire.”

A historian of early modern Europe, Dr. Hines teaches courses on European history, the early British empire, Renaissance Italy, and the history of the atomic bomb — bringing her award‑winning scholarship directly into the classroom.

This is a well‑deserved recognition for one of our newest faculty members! We can't wait to see what Dr. Hines will do next.🤘

A little rain couldn’t slow down the USF Botanical Gardens' Fall Plant Festival — if anything, it made the gardens even greener. 💚🌻

Before a national security decision plays out in the world, USF researchers can help explore how it might unfold.

At the new Security Analysis and Innovation Lab (SAIL), experts in human behavior, AI and predictive modeling work together to examine how conflicts could develop — and how different responses might shape the outcome.

Building on USF’s partnership with U.S. Central Command, this College of Arts and Sciences lab brings researchers, experienced analysts and students into the same space to study decisions with global stakes. SAIL provides tools to model scenarios, anticipate potential consequences and support national security partners with deeper insight before critical choices are made.

Exciting news from the USF Institute for Digital Exploration (IDEx)!

We are proud to start a collaboration with USF Health Institute for Translational Virology and Innovation (ITVI) to digitize and preserve the landmark scientific archives of Dr. Robert Gallo.

From co-discovering HIV as the cause of AIDS to decades of groundbreaking retroviral research, Dr. Gallo’s work fundamentally shaped modern medicine. Through this partnership, the IDEx team will apply advanced imaging and preservation workflows this chapter of the history of science book remains accessible for future generations of researchers and students.

Homecoming looks good on the water. 🤘

Dean Elizabeth Spiller joined President Moez Limayem, Interim Regional Chancellor Thomas Smith, and fellow Bulls at USF St. Petersburg for the return of Rocky’s Regatta.

The tradition, first launched 27 years ago with cardboard boats, made its comeback with kayak races. President Limayem kicked off both the student and faculty/staff heats as students, colleagues, alumni, and trustees cheered from Bayboro Harbor.

Huge thanks to the students and staff who brought this tradition back and gave our community a reason to celebrate on the waterfront. 🌊 ☀️
