After 19 remarkable years of leadership, we celebrated Dean Ghannadian last Friday as he steps down from his role as dean of the Sykes College of Business. His vision, dedication and impact have shaped generations of students, faculty and alumni, leaving a legacy that will be felt for years to come.

In recognition of his extraordinary service, Provost Stephenson awarded him the title of Dean Emeritus—a distinction that reflects both his lasting contributions and continued connection to our community.

The Sykes College of Business Economics Department invites you to join us for an inspiring afternoon honoring 250 years of Adam Smith’s timeless ideas, with distinguished speakers and lunch served.

We’ll explore how Smith’s insights into human behavior, morality, and markets laid the groundwork for modern economics and why his thinking remains powerfully relevant in today’s policy debates.

Featuring Peter Boettke and Abigail Hall, this program bridges philosophy,
economics and public policy in a dynamic conversation designed for students, scholars and civic leaders.

As a special bonus, the first 100 attendees will receive complimentary copies of The Wealth of Nations, Boettke’s Living Economics and Hall’s Austrian Economics: An Introduction. Both speakers will also be available for book signings.

Meet Ora Tanner, one of the leadership panel members for the 2026 Leadership Summit.

Ora Tanner is CEO of Black Unicorn Education. Valerie Lavin is a retired U.S. Army First Sergeant and the founder and CEO of Luminary Global, a company delivering emergency preparedness supplies to ensure professional and everyday heroes have what is needed to save and sustain lives. Meet Bob Buckhorn one of the leadership panel members for the 2026 Leadership Summit.

He served as the mayor of Tampa from 2011 to 2019, where he led more than 4,300 dedicated and forward-thinking civil servants. As mayor, Buckhorn balanced Tampa’s billion-dollar budget for each of his eight years in office and made strategic investments in infrastructure, positioning Tampa to compete with top-tier cities with its culture of inclusiveness, responsiveness and determination.
