Two Penn State Abington students explored Black women’s experiences of colorism for their Abington College Undergraduate Research Activities (ACURA) project.

According to the student researchers, colorism offers lighter-skinned individuals greater access to resources and opportunities as well as social advantages.

Researchers from the University of Utah and the U.S. Department of Agriculture published a paper in the Entomological Society of America journal Insect Systematics and Diversity that described, and named, 30 new species of ant, including syscia sumnichti.

A rare ant native to Central America was named after the Missouri S&T biologist who helped identify the species.
