broke ground today on Uptown Landing, marking the start of construction on the nearly $500 million mixed-use development that will become a dynamic destination for students, alumni, community members, and Bulls fans.

Previously known by its working title, “Fletcher District,” during the planning phase, the newly named development is expected to open in Fall 2028 — ushering in a bold new era for the university by creating a vibrant neighborhood where people can live, work, learn, and play.

You’ve likely seen plastic pollution wash up on Tampa Bay shores in the form of bottles, caps, and containers. But did you know that other forms of nearly invisible microplastics can persist throughout the environment, impacting wildlife and posing risks to human health?

graduate student Kate McLendon is examining red mangrove ecosystems across Tampa Bay to better understand these hidden pollutants and their impact on coastal habitats.
