Summer 2026 - Cindy Wilson
Our Summer 2026 Sister Spotlight is on Cindy Wilson, who was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. After high school, she left to attend Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) in Melbourne. She was attending FIT on an ARMY ROTC scholarship, and the ROTC cadets reported to school 2 weeks prior to other freshmen. As it happened, the president of Gamma Phi Beta’s Delta Sigma chapter was also the cadet battalion commander, and many of the other female cadets were also Gamma Phi’s. Cindy had never given any thought to joining a sorority before that, but she became fast friends with her fellow female cadets, and, as they say, the rest is history! She was initiated into Gamma Phi Beta in January of her freshman year. Over the next 3 years, Cindy served as Delta Sigma chapter’s pledge director, PACE chairwoman, and chapter president. After graduating with her BS in Biology in 1994, Cindy was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army. She spent the next 4 ½ years at Fort Hood, Texas, where she met her husband, Chris. They married in 2000 and have 2 daughters, Melanie (age 22), and Morgan (age 20). Cindy left active duty in 2004, when she became a mom. Her husband continued his active-duty service, and throughout the years, in addition to Fort Hood, they have lived in San Antonio, TX; West Point, NY; Falls Church, VA; Clarksville, TN; Tacoma, WA; and finally, they moved here to Tampa. Chris retired from the Army in 2017, and they now call Tampa home. Cindy earned her MA in Teaching in 2011 and began teaching in 2018. She currently teaches Biology and AP Biology at Durant High School in Plant City. She is a huge fan of the Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Over the years, Cindy kept in contact with her Delta Sigma sisters, but between all the military moves and keeping up with her daughters’ activities, she didn’t engage with any of the alumnae chapters where she lived. When her youngest went to college, Cindy decided it was time to really reacquaint herself with the sorority that has always meant so much to her, so she began attending events with the Tampa Bay Alumnae Chapter. She is very grateful to the women in this chapter for being so welcoming, kind, encouraging, and for making her feel at home with them. She is excited to be taking on the role of Philanthropy Chair and is proud to be attending the Gamma Phi Beta Convention this summer as the alternate Delegate.

Last Saturday, August 15th we had our first chapter meeting of the new fiscal year! With a theme of Kickoff to Sisterhood, sisters celebrated by wearing their collegiate colors! We enjoyed a potluck lunch, followed by a presentation about Girls on the Run of Greater Tampa Bay by Director (Lauren), updates from our collegiate sisters at Eta Eta (Kennedy, Gabby, and Jillian - picture 2), updates about Convention, the Foundation, and more. Thank you to everyone who attended, our special guests, and of course our lovely host, Billie Trocke! 🩷🌙
