The cadets and staff of BLET have been busy over the past few weeks. As the cadets are coming to the end of their twelfth week, here are pictures of them going through CPR/BLS Training requirements from First Responder, and time on the mats learning Compliance & Control Techniques in how to control both combative and compliant subjects.

We are always grateful receiving any kind of assistance for our Public Safety programs here at ECC. The BLET academy staff and cadets are always excited to assist the Rotary Club in setting up U.S. flags for the annual "Field of Honor." This annual event is a tribute to those men and women who have served our country in war and peace.

Bernie Taylor, director of Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) at Edgecombe Community College, recently spoke to members of the Tarboro Rotary Club and accepted a $4,000 donation in support of the BLET and Emergency Medical Services programs. The BLET Academy is a 22-week program that prepares stu...

No question about it. The two most favorite weeks for the majority of the cadets. And those weeks are the ones we are on the Firing Range and they each get to shoot almost 1,000 rounds of handgun ammunition!! As the school director it's satisfying to see our instructors giving quality instruction to where the cadets achieve 100% passing rates for the qualification courses of fire.
Something extra here at ECC-BLET, we have always incorporated the police shotgun and rifle familiarization & training into our program. Last week the cadets were "hands on" with the shotgun.

Last week the cadets had a full week of the topic Criminal Investigation. With this class they learn what to do from the time they arrive on a call until the final statement has been taken and the last piece of evidence has been collected. And their cases were definitely not solved in an hour like you see on TV. Here in BLET they learn the real, hands on "CSI" process.

Hopefully our 17th Basic Academy and Cadets are getting back to a “normal” schedule after missing a few days due to weather.
This week they learned techniques for interviewing and interrogations. They also had training in Drill & Ceremony along with hands on training for drawing the service duty handgun.

Wow what a start to our 17th Basic Academy! Since beginning on January 16th, this class hasn’t completed a full 5 day week yet. Between a holiday and two weather events it’s been a tough 15 days thus far for the cadets and staff. But so far the cadets have pushed through three topics, their first POPAT, (Police Officer Physical Abilities Test), and first Cooper Assessment.
