Where in the community is Director Fines? Did you know Florinda is an LLCC alum? She says, "I enjoyed that I could take classes locally at LLCC-Taylorville when I was getting my degree." We're proud to provide accessible, local education that helps students achieve their goals. Even better, Florinda isn't the only LLCC alum at her restaurant! Several of her employees are current students or LLCC alum's too!

Instructor Spotlight, Tim McKenzie! Tim has been teaching at LLCC Taylorville for a while now, and is a full-time faculty member! We appreciate him traveling to Taylorville to teach our students!

1. What do you teach? Philosophy classes — logic, ethics and world religions
2. One thing you want students to know about your class? Ethics and introduction to philosophy can be open-ended without any right answers. Students interested in arts and writing tend to prefer those courses. On the other hand, logic can be very technical. Math and computer science students tend to like that course more. Philosophy majors tend to be a strange mix of both.
3. Favorite food? Probably lasagna.
4. Hidden talent? Lego construction. My house is overrun with Legos. My 5-year-old told me his purpose in life is to build Lego dinosaurs. I'll help him build something OK, and my wife will improve it. Personally, I'm building Lego houses for a Christmas village with a Lego Christmas train to run through it.
5. Favorite thing about teaching at LLCC-Taylorville? I've had really great students at Taylorville. I teach a lot of College Now students, and they tend to be on it. The staff is also super nice, and my two oldest sons attend school in Taylorville. It's nice being close to their schools.
6. Favorite thing about being an instructor? I love working with students. I have a lot of discussion classes, and you never know where things will go. It keeps me on my toes.

While registering students for dual credit classes at Taylorville High School, Director Fines had a great surprise. She ran into Isaac, her former public speaking student, and future LLCC baseball player! It's always exciting to see students taking the next step in their educational and athletic journeys. Go Loggers!

Instructor Spotlight, Brandi Spann! Brandi is new to our campus this semester, and we are super jazzed to have her!

1. What do you teach?
English Composition 101 & English Composition 102
2. One thing you want your students to know about your class.
It is always my intention that students feel comfortable asking scholarly questions of both me and of each other, and that they feel a noticeable difference in their confidence as writers by the end of the course.
3. Favorite food?
I am a big fan of my nana's lasagna and proper al pastor street tacos.
4. Hidden talent?
I am learning to play the harp, though I'm not sure I would classify my novice skills as a "talent" just yet
5. Favorite anticipated thing about teaching at LLCC Taylorville?
I am most excited to get to know Taylorville's community! I anticipate that my students will be able to point me to all the best local eats and activities.
6. Favorite things about being an instructor?
I truly enjoy interacting with young scholars. In writing courses, individual interests really shine, and I've learned so much about languages, borders, work/life balance, and new music/movies from class conversations and essays. It's rewarding to witness students make use of writing and reading in their own industries.

Instructor Spotlight: Amy Delap! Amy has been very popular amongst our BIO 101 students! She is always up for some fun that Director Fines has up her sleeve too! Grateful to have Amy at our center!

1. What do you teach?
I teach Biology 101 on the Litchfield and Taylorville campuses.
2. One thing you want your students to know about your class.
I want students to know that Biology is both exciting with possibility and relevant to everyday life.
3. Favorite food?
I love spicy and sour foods... like buffalo chicken wings, salsa, and pickles
4. Hidden talent?
I love writing fiction and poetry.
5. Favorite thing about teaching at LLCC Taylorville?
I love getting to know the students in this community during our fun lab exploits and class discussions.
6. Favorite things about being an instructor?
I love finding out where students are at, meeting them there and challenging them to take it further-whether it is with their understanding of Biology, their ways of looking at the world, their studying and note taking techniques or their dreams of the future. I also love learning from students. They often challenge me to see the world in different ways as well.
