Help your student prepare for the housing selection process!

Parents of first-year Barrett students, now is the time for your student to start preparing for 2027–28 housing. This short video covers important dates, what students can do now, roommate planning, and where to find the latest information: https://youtu.be/cZBL410Q2aM?si=1Mmi9InEawCVYBc8

The two-year residential living commitment was part of admission to Barrett and applies to both the first and second years. Rising sophomores are guaranteed a housing assignment.

Students may enter room selection individually or in a two- or four-person roommate group. If your student plans to live with roommates, their group must be finalized before room selection begins.

Housing information sessions will be held Oct. 13, 15, and 16 from 4 to 5 p.m. Arizona time via Zoom (https://asu.zoom.us/my/fredjmiller).

Big news for Barrett students and faculty!

Venture capitalist and philanthropist John H. Martinson has spent decades immersed in honors education across the country. After getting an up-close look at Barrett, The Honors College, he liked what he saw enough to make a $2 million, five-year investment in Barrett students and faculty.

Martinson described Barrett as “like adding a ninth Ivy League school” within the ASU community.

His support will create more opportunities for students to pursue entrepreneurial and technology-focused thesis work, prepare for careers and graduate and professional school, and be recognized for exceptional achievement. It also will support the faculty mentors who help guide students along the way.

Camp B brought the fun, the friendships, and even a little rain!⛺🌧

We had an incredible time bringing together Barrett students from Tempe, Downtown Phoenix, and West Valley for a weekend of connection, laughter, challenges, conversations, and plenty of Camp B memories.

From meeting new friends to taking on the Camp Challenge and learning more about the Barrett community, our students jumped right in and made the weekend unforgettable.

Proof that an honors thesis can become a career advantage

An honors thesis is more than a requirement to check off before graduation. Done well, it can become a real example of how a student thinks, solves problems, and applies what they’ve learned. And it can help land them a great job.

Barrett alumnus Ryan Cantrell saw that firsthand. While interviewing for internships, he heard from hiring managers that his thesis work helped show he could handle the complexity of a fast-moving global supply chain. That experience helped him land an internship at Intel, where he now works as a supply chain technical analyst.

It’s a great example of how a thesis can carry value well beyond the classroom.

Ryan is one of three alumni featured in “Built at Barrett,” a new ASU News story about how the people, experiences and opportunities students find at Barrett can continue to shape their lives and careers after graduation.

Taking honors research all the way to South Africa🌍

Through Global Ties That Bind, a new GlobalResolve program, 10 Barrett students worked alongside 11 honors students from the University of Pretoria.

They exchanged ideas and learned firsthand from government officials, diplomats, civil society organizations and business leaders. For some, the experience even reshaped the direction of their honors thesis.

Thank you to Jason Briggs and José Moreno from Barrett’s Office of Global Initiatives and faculty mentors Káyọ̀dé Odùmbọ́ní and James Parker for supporting our students throughout the experience.

We’re also grateful to the University of Pretoria, including Christopher Isike, and the In Transformation Initiative, including Ivor Jenkins and Ambassador Roelf Meyer, for sharing their time, knowledge and perspectives with our students.
