Trinity Valley Community College is eager to grow the fire science program and would like to invite anyone that is interested in firefighting, fire prevention, or fire investigations to contact us for more information. Our curriculum is designed to incorporate Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) training standards into our coursework, meaning that students will be eligible for up to four se
parate TCFP certifications upon graduation with an associate's degree. A major goal of our program is to teach fire-related courses that examine the historical, present, and future trends of the fire service. Our philosophy is to provide students with many tools for their toolbox and to develop the critical-thinking skills needed to choose the right tool. We also provide relevant classes that will help you in your fire service career, no matter how experienced you are. Students with no experience may choose to obtain TXDSHS EMT-Basic certification to jump-start their career. Students with more experience will benefit from exposure to each of the major divisions within a fire department and fire administration courses. Some of the biggest concerns among firefighters is the cost of tuition and scheduling conflicts that often interfere with pursuing higher education. At TVCC, rest assured that instructors will be flexible with your 24/48 work schedule and reasonable accommodations will be made. Courses are offered online to make them more accessible. If you are a firefighter, you are also eligible for tuition exemption. You can also get college credit for the certifications you already have. After completing the paperwork, you can get credit for your TCFP Firefighter and TXDSHS EMT-B or Paramedic certifications. TVCC's Fire Science Program is dedicated to helping students achieve their personal and professional goals. Advisors are always available to guide students through any questions they may have along the way. Make that phone call or send that email now, it will be worth it.
