The College of the Mainland Lifelong Learning Center is located in the Mainland City Centre in Texas City and open to anyone age 18 and older who wants to pursue lifelong learning opportunities. The College of the Mainland Lifelong Learning Program’s mission is to provide educational opportunities for adult students by offering personal enrichment classes in a positive, accepting, and intergenerat

ional environment. Community Education: Non-credit, fee-based personal development classes and workshops available to the entire community.
* Class/workshop fees are based upon content and costs
* Classes range from two hours to several weeks depending on topic
* Classes held primarily during weeknight evenings and Saturdays

50 Plus: Classes that are specifically designed to engage and serve the 50+ community.
* Class fees are $15 per 12-wk semester for adults ages 50+
* Classes are two hours each week
* Classes held during daytime hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) Trip/Travel Adventures: Day/Evening outings as well as extended travel opportunities for students to explore education through trips and travel.
* Trip and Travel fees vary depending on location
* Day and evening educational outings offered to increase student appreciation of different arts and cultures
* Extended travel opportunities available annually to explore both the US and abroad

Join us for our upcoming trip next Tuesday, 6/9 when we travel to Newman’s Castle in Bellville, TX for a morning of castle exploration! See the moat, working drawbridge, portcullis, five turrets, courtyard, chapel, and central keep with dramatic views of the surrounding lands. In the afternoon, visit San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site, where Stephen F. Austin established his 1823 colony headquarters—the social, economic, and political hub of early Texas settlement. Lunch is included for a full day of history, exploration, and adventure!

On Tuesday we held our last community education workshop for the semester. Students learned how to transform simple paper strips into a unique floral design by rolling, shaping, and gluing each piece together. Thank you Myrle Waller for sharing your love of a centuries-old art form with us!

Thank you Durelle Brown for leading a creative and energetic 2-part workshop where students learned how to turn old books into one-of-a-kind journals! So many different ideas and types of journal-making supplies were shared that it was almost overwhelming. Students left with their repurposed books plus many, many ideas for filling them too!
