We are filled with gratitude as we reflect on an incredible partnership with Thrive on the Bayou during this year's Black History Month celebration! Special thanks to Dr. Melinda Jefferson, our BHM chair and Gala Co-Chair, for your inspiring leadership and dedication to honoring our rich history.

We'd also like to offer our heartfelt congratulations to our remarkable Co-Chair Elnora Parker-Vicks, who received the Transformation Trailblazer Award, and our dedicated committee member Farren Clark, who was recognized with the Empowerment Leadership Award at the THRIVE 2025 Gala. Your hard work and passion truly make a difference! 🎉

Lastly, a shoutout to our incredibly talented Nicholls Music Education student and THRIVE protégé, Zoundriel McCoy, who serves as the Vice President of BWLA. Your contributions are invaluable!

Tuesday, February 25, 2025, was a night to remember.
First, we thank our keynote speaker and honoree, Tonya S. Harris, for her continuous support and powerful, engaging speech.

It was an honor to celebrate "Black Royalty" and discuss Mental Health & Wellness during our “Crowning Greatness” event. This interactive event was dedicated to sharing the powerful stories of extraordinary Black individuals in the Nicholls Community. We highlighted their dedication, accomplishments, and the positive impact they have made through their remarkable efforts. Their contributions are invaluable, and we were honored to recognize them. Our honorees from different generations were crowned as a special part of the event to further acknowledge their outstanding contributions to Nicholls and/or our community.

Please join us tonight for some thought-provoking conversations regarding Black Mental Health.

This year's Black History Month marks our 7th year bringing awareness to Black Mental Health across our campus and the community.

Changing the culture of mental health and creating an important dialogue and safe spaces on our campus is essential and is something our University Counseling Center has continued to work on with the support of our campus, panelists, and community agencies/stakeholders.

"The Power of Resilience Redefined: Labor, Legacy, and Mental Well-Being," a thought-provoking panel and discussion event that explores Black resilience in the face of historical and contemporary challenges. This event brings together leaders, scholars, and activists from diverse fields to delve into the multifaceted dimensions of Black labor, the importance of preserving and celebrating legacy, and the critical conversation surrounding mental well-being in Black communities.

The focus of this event is to educate and engage the Nicholls Community and surrounding communities on mental health and wellness as well as to enhance awareness not only among all students and faculty/staff but particularly among our African American/black students and those in the community.
