We’re so proud of Nicholls senior mass communication student Trent Granberry, who was selected as one of four college students statewide to receive a New Orleans Association of Black Journalists scholarship! ❤️

Trent will be honored at the NOABJ Legacy Awards and Scholarship Brunch in New Orleans this November.

This also marks the second year in a row a Nicholls MACO student has received the scholarship. Congratulations, Trent!

Legendary football analyst, inspiration and friend to MACO, and father to MACO alums Stephanie Detillier Verdin and Clyde Verdin. We join so many in honoring his memory, legacy, and contributions to our field and lives.

We’re heartbroken. But we will remember the laughs, the endless insights, the optimism, the joy, the belief, and the passion Mike D instilled in all of us by his example, through his work, and with his voice.

There isn’t another out there like him.

The world of sports has lost a giant.

Excited to partner with Barker Honda to support and highlight area athletes!

Exciting news for area high school sports fans! The Barker Honda Athletes of the Week and Coaches of the Month contests are coming back! Barker Honda will join forces with main sponsors Chris Singleton Sports and the Nicholls State University Department of Mass Communication to present these awards throughout the 2026-27 school year. Barker Honda, the Nicholls Department of Mass Communication and Chris Singleton are committed to the coverage and promotion of high school athletics and honoring the amazing achievements of athletes in Terrebonne, Lafourche, Assumption, St. Mary and St. James parishes. Athletes in all sports will be nominated and the winners will be selected by a panel of area voters. The winners will be announced every week and will be honored with awards at Barker Honda. Stay tuned for more and best of luck to all area athletes, coaches, schools and fans this season!
