We reshare this spotlight with some very exciting news!

When we featured Chasity Holley three years ago, she was a shining example of what's possible when you . She earned her AAS in Early Childhood Care and Education at SRTC, transferred to Albany State University, completed her BS, and went on to earn her Master's in Elementary Education.

Now she is coming back to SRTC as our new Early Childhood instructor at SRTC-Bainbridge!

We couldn't be more excited to welcome Chasity back to the SRTC family in a whole new way. Bainbridge students, you are in incredible hands! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Chasity Holley is an SRTC alumna who took advantage of one of our many articulation agreements with area colleges and universities. She was able to transition seamlessly between her associate degree at here SRTC and her bachelorโ€™s degree at Albany State University.
In her own words:

โ€œThe Early Childhood Care and Education program at Southern Regional Technical College was one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. When I chose to pursue an associate degree in Early Childhood Care and Education, I did not realize the lifelong friendships and partnerships I would make along the way. I had some of the most amazing instructors. Letitia Austin quickly became a mentor for me during my time at SRTC, and after. The SRTC Early Childhood Associates program gave me the firm foundation I needed before I pursued my bachelor's degree.

Before graduating from SRTC in July of 2019, I knew I had to start looking at universities to transfer to obtain my bachelor's degree in early childhood education. Albany State University was my immediate first choice for several reasons. The bridge program with SRTC and ASU was a smooth transition for me. Before graduating I had someone who reached out to me and guided me through the application process. I also loved that ASU had an off-campus location in Cairo that I could attend. I also didnโ€™t have to wait a long period of time after graduation to attend ASU. After I graduated in July of 2019 from SRTC, I began my studies at ASU the very next month. I graduated from ASU in May of 2023, and I am currently pursuing my masterโ€™s in Early Childhood Education from ASU.โ€

Letitia Austin is the Liaison for Albany State University Off-Campus Programs. As a guide and mentor for Chasity, she has watched her grow and achieve along her educational journey.

โ€œAs a university instructor, I have worked with several students who have substantial knowledge in early childhood education, however, there are rare cases where I have students with a unique flare and an abundance of creativity. Chasity Holley stood out in most of my classes. I found her as a student who was always eager to learn new things and one with an outstanding work ethic. She is well versed in several areas that will enhance her teaching abilities and student achievement. She is proficient in communicating with both students and adults. Currently, she is delivering instruction in her own classroom while implementing what she has learned at both Southern Regional Technical College and Albany State University.โ€

Chasity, we are honored that you chose to , and so proud of how far you are going with your education!

Meet Lacey Zeigler! ๐Ÿฉบ

Lacey's journey in healthcare began right here at SRTC when she earned her Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification through Dual Enrollment while still a student at Colquitt County High School, graduating in 2011.

Over the next several years, Lacey continued building her foundation at SRTC, earning her Early Childcare Certification (2015), her Associate's in Medical Assisting (2016), and her Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) credential (2021). She then transitioned to ABAC in 2024 to pursue her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and became a Registered Nurse.

Today, Lacey serves as a Charge Nurse on the Pediatric/Med Surg floor at Colquitt Regional Medical Center, the same floor where she once did clinicals as a CNA student. She has been honored with the Heart and Hands Award, Employee of the Month, multiple DAISY nominations, and the prestigious DAISY Award, nominated by the very patients and families she cared for.

Through marriage, raising two children, working full time, and even receiving a tumor diagnosis two days before starting the RN program, Lacey pushed through every obstacle and never stopped until she reached her goal.

"I am a firm believer that the best nurses were CNAs first. Being a CNA helped me get the empathy that is absolutely needed in the medical field. There is no doubt in my mind that I would not be half the nurse that I am today if I hadn't started my journey at SRTC."

If you have a passion for healthcare and are not sure where to start, consider starting with your CNA at SRTC. You never know where it might take you! ๐Ÿ‘‰ https://southernregional.edu/college-catalog/current/programs/nurse-aide

We're excited to partner with Southwest Georgia Academy to introduce 11th graders to the world of welding and skilled trades! Opportunities like this are exactly why we do what we do, connecting students with real skills for real careers. (Pending SACSCOC approval)

SGA is proud to partner with Southern Regional Technical College to provide 11th grade students with hands-on welding training and career exploration opportunities. In honor of Memorial Day, all SRTC campuses will be closed today, Monday, May 25th.

President Jim Glass addressed our college community and encouraged everyone to remember the meaning of this important day of remembrance:

"As you enjoy time with your family and friends, I hope that you will take a minute to remember the more than 645,000 military service members who have lost their lives since World War I. Our precious freedoms are available only because of the sacrifice of those heroes and their families. Thank you for your hard work and for all you continue to do to make SRTC special!"
