Four SRTC students took their skills to the national stage at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta, and we couldn't be more proud!

Ethan Fillyaw, Yudiel Duvergel, Luis Fernandez Gessa, and Denix Hernandez all earned their spots at nationals after placing first at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference in February. Ethan placed sixth in Technical Drafting, Luis competed in Industrial Motor Control, and Yudiel and Denix were awarded SkillPoint Certificates, recognizing that their skills meet or exceed industry standards.

"The work Ethan, Yudiel, Luis, and Denix put into preparing for nationals speaks to their skill, their character, and the quality of training they receive here at SRTC," said KaCee Miller, SRTC Campus Director. "We could not be more proud to watch them represent our college on a national stage."

We are so proud of our SRTC students who excelled at FBLA Nationals in Las Vegas! Megan Patel, Joshua Spear, and Micaela Miley competed at the national level after placing first at the Georgia Spring Leadership Conference in March.

Megan Patel placed fourth in Hospitality Management Case Study, Joshua Spear placed fourth in Foundations of Technology, and Micaela Miley competed in Computer Applications.

"Watching Megan, Joshua, and Micaela compete at the national level is something we are incredibly proud of," said Carol Peppers, SRTC FBLA-Collegiate Advisor. "Placing first at the state conference and then representing SRTC in Las Vegas takes real dedication and preparation. These students have shown what is possible when you commit to your goals, and that drive will serve them well long after the competition is over."

Meet ShaRhonda Williams 🩺

ShaRhonda's journey in healthcare began at SRTC through Dual Enrollment, where she earned her CNA in 2010 while still in high school. Her passion for caring for others started long before that, though. At just 12 years old, ShaRhonda lost her father to a heart attack and made a promise to herself that she would spend her life saving others.

After high school, she enrolled in SRTC's Respiratory Care program, where she excelled in both the classroom and clinicals, earned the Best Respiratory Therapist Student award from Archbold Memorial Hospital, and was nominated by her classmates for the Ambassador Award. She graduated with her AAS in Respiratory Care from SRTC in 2019, went on to become a travel Respiratory Therapist, and then earned her Bachelor's in Respiratory Therapy from Liberty University in 2023.

But nursing was always the goal for her. In 2024, ShaRhonda enrolled in ABAC's bridge program, studying up to 20 hours a week while working full time on weekends. Her instructors took notice, and she was collectively voted to receive the Lisa Purvis Allison Spirit of Nursing Award for her academic excellence, dedication, and positive attitude in the classroom and clinicals.

ShaRhonda graduated with her RN in May 2025 and now works as a nurse in the Neuro and Trauma ICU at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, fulfilling the promise she made to herself as a little girl.

Her advice to students just starting out is "Just START!! Even if you're unsure of which healthcare field fits you best, just have faith and do your best in all that you do."

Meet Kaili Carmen. 🛠️

By day, she works retail and paints murals in her hometown of Cairo, Georgia. In the Precision Manufacturing and Machining Lab at SRTC, she's operating lathes, calculating precise measurements, and transforming raw metal into finished parts… and she's doing it in a field where fewer than 1 in 10 machinists are women.

Kaili came to SRTC exploring her options and found her way into precision machining when an instructor introduced her to the lab. The moment she walked in, something clicked.

"I like math. I like all the technology. I like putting my hands in and being creative. This is a perfect match."

Remember those Purple Martin gourd houses our Land, Forest, and Wildlife Management students installed back in January? We have an important update from the field!

Just a few weeks ago, a migrant male and female pair arrived and made themselves right at home, and now, they've welcomed four beautiful nestlings!

Our Wildlife Policy and Law class got the honor of being the first to check in on them. Nest checks like this, with minimal intrusion and no interference, are a standard and important part of wildlife management. Purple Martins rely on human-provided housing in the eastern U.S. when they make their return from South America.

Safe to say, the Purple Martins have made themselves at home at SRTC! 🌿🏡

This week's GED® spotlight is a familiar face! Trinity Griffin made history as the 2026 State of Georgia's Adult Education Student of the Year, and her story is worth sharing again and again.

At 18, she overcame age restrictions, self-doubt, and health-related obstacles to earn her GED through SRTC's Adult Education Program. She built her resume, landed a job as a Universal Banker, and won the state's highest adult education honor. Trinity plans to continue her education in Radiologic Technology, where she can combine her love for caring for others with her passion for helping people find comfort and clarity.

We are so proud of her and how well she represents us at the state level! Congratulations, Trinity 💙💚

SRTC's Automation Technology program covers everything from electronics and industrial wiring to manufacturing and computers, setting graduates up for high-demand careers as Industrial Electricians and Industrial Maintenance Technicians. Happy Certified Nursing Assistants Week! CNAs are often the first face a patient sees in the morning and the last voice they hear at night. They take vitals, assist with daily living, and build the kind of relationships that make a real difference in someone's quality of life. It is demanding, meaningful work, and it takes a special kind of person to do it well. CNAs, we appreciate you!
