A communication degree at Cal Lutheran incorporates the study of communication theory with the development of the practical skills demanded in today's highly competitive marketplace. The major covers a broad array of subjects, enabling students to complete a generalized major or one that emphasizes advertising/public relations, journalism, or film and television production. Students can gain hands
-on experience working for the weekly campus newspaper, The Echo, for the campus-wide cable television station operating out of our on-campus TV studio, or for our streaming radio station, iCLU. Communication education also takes students out of the classroom and into the workplace, with the requirement that they complete at least one industry internship or participate in a senior departmental honors project. Students are also encouraged to explore the world through CLU's Study Abroad program and travel seminars offered through the department. Led by a CLU faculty member, Travel Seminars take students around the world to locations such as Britain, Costa Rica, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, China, and Turkey. Students enroll in a focused course on campus during the semester prior to departure. Upon completion of the semester, students are taken into the field for a two- to three-week period to put their classroom studies into context.
