“We are excited to welcome Ethan back to ABAC and SANR,” said Dr. Andrew Thoron, Dean of the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources. “His passion for forestry, commitment to hands-on learning, and connection to our program make him an outstanding addition to the Department of Forest Resources and to our mission of preparing work-ready graduates.”

The Wildlife Damage Management class, led by Philip Ford, recently visited South FL to learn about the many different invasive species wreaking havoc on the everglades ecosystem and the human-wildlife conflicts that are increasing as the region faces increasing development. On the first day, we met with USDA Wildlife Services professionals and researchers from the University of Florida Tropical Aquaculture Lab to learn about damage management in urban areas and the research being done to protect the natural ecosystem while supporting Florida's thriving aquaculture industry. On day two, the students experienced a full python necropsy from the scientists at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, followed by alligator and python capture and handling lessons from private trappers in the region. Our last day was filled with a trip to Everglades National Park and python hunting deep into the wilderness. Thank you to all the professionals that gave of their time to make this trip possible!

As the academic year winds down, we are celebrating our student organizations and their contributions to the complete education of our students. These organizations help students develop leadership and organizational skills, contribute to community service, and develop lifelong bonds.

Monday, we held the 2026 SANR Club Banquet, planned and executed by our SANR Leaders. Club presidents representing nineteen different SANR clubs brought updates and recognition of their members.

Additionally, the Larry D. Allen Leadership awards were presented to Bailey Ellison, Ethan Stark, and Reanna Brown.

Congratulations on a great year to all of our SANR student leaders!
