It’s that time to meet another member of this year’s Mortar Board executive staff!

Meet Meghan Burke who is serving as this year’s secretary!

When asked how Washburn has made an impact on her life, she answered, “Washburn has given me the most amazing friends and opportunities to further my leadership skills. I could not enter the next phase in my life without the skills I have gained since coming to washburn in 2017. I could not imagine my life without washburn and will be forever grateful for everything I have gained.”

Member Spotlight Saturday!

Welcome Mayela!

Mayela is this year’s chapter President and we cannot be more excited to have her as part of the team!

When asked why she chose Washburn, Mayela said: “One of my majors is political science and I knew that going to Washburn could give me the possibility of interning at the State Capitol, which I was able to do!”

Our first member introduction is Aaron Nelson!

•Aaron is serving as this year’s Treasurer on our Executive Board.

When asked why he loves Washburn, Aaron said, “I would say that my favorite thing about Washburn is that I feel connected to campus. The class size is smaller, and I feel like I can learn much better in this environment rather than a larger class size.”

We’re excited to have Aaron on board this year!

Over the next several weeks, we will be introducing our 2020-2021 Mortar Board class. Mortar Board is a National organization that recognizes college seniors that have excelled in leadership, service, and scholarship.

Mortar Board is a national network that includes over 200 chapters, 35 alumni chapters, and 25 geographical sections. Mortar Board chapters across the country are challenged to provide thoughtful leadership to the campus and community to create an environment of effective communication, to move toward a meaningful goal, and to maintain the ideals of the society. Since 1918, over 220,000 college seniors have been initiated into the Mortar Board tradition of scholarship, leadership, and service.

The Ichabod Chapter of Mortar Board was founded in 2005 at Washburn University. Stay tuned for this year’s class introductions!
