The Honors Transfer Program at El Camino College is designed to better prepare the highly motivated student to transfer successfully to a university and complete a bachelor's degree. The program provides a unique learning environment which stresses scholastic excellence and develops the academic awareness necessary to achieve this goal. The major objective of the program is to better prepare stude
nts for transfer by focusing on enhanced writing, reading and study skills. To join the HTP, you must:
• Effective May 1, 2010, have at least 3.1 unweighted cumulative academic GPA for
grades 9-12 on your high school transcript or from all completed college coursework
(at least nine transferable units)
• Be eligible for (or have completed) English 1A or have an AP exam score of 3 or more
• Complete the Honors Transfer Program application and submit all required materials
To remain active in the HTP, you must:
• Maintain a minimum 3.1 cumulative GPA
• Successfully complete English 1A the first semester in the program (unless already
completed)
• Complete at least one honors course each regular (fall or spring) semester, with a
minimum grade of C (an honors course is not required during summer and winter
sessions, but honors courses taken during these sessions will count)
• Attend at least one seminar each semester, until you have attended four seminars
To complete the HTP, you must:
• Have at least 3.1 cumulative GPA at time of HTP completion
• Complete at least two regular (fall or spring) semesters in the HTP
• Complete at least five honors courses*, each with a minimum grade of C
• Complete at least four seminars or Alternate Enrichment Activities (see list of venues
and instructions on HTP counter)
• Complete at least two scheduled ½-hour counseling appointments and submit
documentation to the HTP (one appointment must be an educational plan; the other
may be another educational plan or may be a transfer counselor appointment)
*We will count only one designated honors course completed at another college. If you do not qualify to join the HTP at this time, you may still take for honors courses. If you
do join the HTP in a later semester, those courses will count toward the five required. The HTP does not require a minimum number of units per semester, but each
semester you must meet all the requirements described above. If you do not, you will
be suspended and will not receive priority registration. It is best to be in the HTP for two years. Although we allow you to complete the program in one year, be very sure that you can
schedule and complete five honors courses during that time. Winter session courses may or
may not be offered in future years; when they are offered, they fill up fast! You will receive seminar credit when attend a seminar and sign the seminar attendance sheet,
or submit an Alternate Enrichment Activity report. You will receive counseling appointment
credit when you turn in a copy of an educational plan (courses you plan to take here at ECC)
prepared by any ECC counselor, or a verification note of a meeting (about your university plans)
with any transfer counselor. On the HTP Completion Form on page 12, write down all of
your honors courses, seminars, and counseling appointments as you complete them. You must complete all of the requirements described above in order to complete the
HTP. If you have been TAP certified and admitted to UCLA (see page 9), and then do
not complete all requirements, your UCLA admission may be rescinded.
