Greetings EOPS Colleagues,
NOW is the time for us to make our phone calls. Please read and act upon this message no later than Thursday, June 4.
Please call both your Assembly member and your Senator in their Sacramento offices. The Assembly roster is found at http://assembly.ca.gov/assemblymembers and the Senate roster is at http://senate.ca.gov/senators. If you do not know your legislators in Sacramento, click here: http://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/.
Here are the specific instructions:
1) Call the Sacramento offices of both your Assembly and State Senator ASAP.
2) Ask to speak to the legislative consultant who handles higher education budget issues for your legislator.
3) Tell them that you are calling to support the $34 million proposed budget increase for California Community Colleges EOPS program. Explain that this item is not being discussed in the Budget Conference Committee because both the Assembly and Senate agree to the $34 million. However, since the proposed increase is not included in the Governor’s Budget, you want your legislator to communicate strong support for EOPS to the Assembly/Senate leadership in their final discussions with the Administration.
Here’s one additional task:
1) Contact the respective Assembly and Senate Budget Committees. (916) 319-2099; (916) 651-4103.
2) Tell whoever answers the phone that you are calling to support the $34 million proposed budget increase for California Community Colleges EOPS program.
Final task:
If you have any pre-existing relationships with legislative staff either in Sacramento or at the district level, contact them now to say that we are making a big push on the $34 million proposed increase for California Community Colleges EOPS in the 2015-16 Budget Act.
The timelines for advocacy sometimes get very compressed. Now is our window of opportunity to act.
Let’s make it happen!
