Towson University students are continuing to adjust to the remodeled UStore following its takeover by Follett Higher Education. The new outside operator made changes to the store’s layout, inventory and overall appearance.

The transition occurred during spring break and introduced new merchandise, like Apple products. Renee Norman, Towson’s divisional budget officer for campus operations, said the university outsourced the store as part of a fiscally responsible decision and is looking forward to its partnership with Follett.

Towson University’s Office of Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility is now the Office for Social Impact.

The name change came after over three years of discussion, one of the reasons being its length. The office found that some people only said half of the title, which they felt deemphasized the other parts of their work. The office’s previous acronym, “CESR,” also left people confused about what the letters stood for.

Since getting hired in 2022, Romy Hübler, director of the Office for Social Impact, has led a rebranding effort to steer the office toward more sustainable, high-impact programming.

“The idea of changing the name was actually presented to me when I was interviewed for my position. In that process, I really wanted to focus on identifying what the work is that we do holistically before we looked at the name change,” Hübler said.

To invite collaboration, Hübler also said they intentionally used “office for” instead of “office of” in the new title because they see their work as collective and ongoing.

Before selecting the office’s new title, some faculty members voted on the options. They researched how offices and organizations that do similar work at other universities selected their name, avoiding titles with similar words.

Charis Lawson, the coordinator for civic engagement, said she thinks the new name will have positive results.

“I really just want the work that we do to be more accessible so that people understand the work that we do. When it comes to what civic engagement or community engagement work is, a lot of people don’t know what both of those mean,” Lawson said. “When they see or think through how we are making a social impact, that is something that is very clear and can really help bring us together.”

The Baltimore County Police Department has identified two more suspects in the recent “Peeping Tom” prowls near Knollwood Road and Donnybrook Apartments.

53-year-old Johnnie Wade Jr. and 56-year-old Daniel Sell face charges after footage was released of two separate peeping incidents.

One of the previously identified suspects, 55-year-old Andrade Robinson was arrested on April 28 for his involvement in the peeping occurrences and is currently on home detention until his trial on July 6. The three individuals have all been identified through Ring surveillance footage that the apartment residents have set up in their windows.

Towson University saw a decrease in graduate international student enrollment during the 2025-26 academic year after travel bans restricted student visas.

Compared to last year, Towson saw a 10.5% decrease in graduate student enrollment, according to data The Towerlight obtained. The drop in numbers is largely due to federal travel policies enacted by the Trump administration.

Towson University Athletics fees for full-time undergraduates will increase by $45 for the fall 2026 semester.

It’s a 6.5% increase and brings the total fee of $688 up to $733 per semester. The fees for part-time undergraduates and graduate students are also increasing by $1, now totaling $53 per credit.

Vice President of Athletics Steve Eigenbrot said the increase is due to the rising cost to run the department. The athletic department is an auxiliary unit on Towson’s campus and has to operate off its self-generated funds.

Baltimore County Police arrested 55-year-old Andrade Robinson in connection with the ongoing “Peeping Tom” incidents at Donnybrook Apartments.

According to court records, police arrested Robinson at an apartment complex in the Rodgers Forge area at 4 a.m. on Friday after watching him use a step stool to peep into windows.

The detectives ultimately caught Robinson after receiving a tip from an anonymous resident. The resident called Det. Nicole Spear on April 28 and reported witnessing a man with a three-step ladder walking around the Donnybrook Apartment complex between 2 and 3 a.m., according to court records.

Residents Chloe White and Devin Kaestner have been dealing with “Peeping Toms” for the past several months and caught multiple men on camera several times, including the night of the April 28 report.

On Tuesday, Towson University’s Student Success Programs and the Zeta Phi Beta hosted a Lunch and Learn on higher education and campus life, featuring Maryland Gov. Wes Moore.

During the first half of the two hour event, attendees got to share their thoughts on different issues and topics relating to the university. Moore came during the second half of the event to share some words of encouragement.

Upon hearing about the event, Moore thought it was important because it served as a great opportunity for people to feel like they were not only being seen and heard, but also to feel like their voice helps make an impact.

“When you get a chance to see students who are so focused on the larger success of our society, it gets you excited. Because so much of what is happening right now is going to impact our students directly, we need to make sure that their voices are heard directly in the conversations about what’s happening, what their aspirations are, and what they want to get done,” Moore said.
