With COVID-19, many medical offices have had to use the telehealth systems to reach their patients, but in rural Michigan many areas do not have broadband access to support these systems.

Kelly Hirko is an assistant professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Bio-statistics in the College of Human Medicine at the Traverse City Campus. Kelly added commentary in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association by talking about the disparities in health status for rural America.

One more to add is Dr. Julie Ngoc Thai, MD, Class of 2017 was featured in the STFM Foundation Newsletter as "Our North Stars: Inspiration Through Our Best and Brightest". Dr. Thai talks about her path towards her career and the how becoming a family medicine physician has shaped her journey.

Fewer Michigan children are currently up to date on their routine vaccines because of postponed well-child visits during the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s why family physicians are urging families to get children and teens caught up on all recommended vaccines as soon as possible.

Dr. Andrea Wendling, Director of Rural Medicine for the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University, was recently named the recipient of the National Rural Health Association’s 2020 Outstanding Educator Award. Dr. Wendling is part of the Traverse City MSU CHM Team and we could not be prouder!
