Good evening Trojans, over the past few days there have been some news about the tragic events that occurred in the country of Nepal. now, I know the majority of you are wondering: Where is Nepal and what does this small country have to do with Troy University? Well, for starters Nepal is a developing landlocked country that is between southeast China and northeast India that is lacking the resources to recover from the recent earthquake that happened a few days ago. That is where you, the Trojan Community, comes in. Just recently, the Nepalese Student Association of Troy University started a fundraiser to help those who are still trying to recover from the disaster and they need your help in raising $10,000. The money that is being raised is going to be given to the Red Cross and a local NGO( Non-Governmental Organization) in Nepal in order to help those who are in desperate need for vital resources(food, cloths, water, etc). Also, it doesn't matter how much you donate just as long as you donate for a good cause. Here is the link to where you can make your donations: http://www.gofundme.com/sxbd59s

Before I sign off, I just want to say thank you for helping the Nepalese Student Association raise enough money to combat this tragic event. goodbye, good luck on finals and GO TROJANS.

A message from Troy University Nepalese Student Association. We are writing this in urgency regarding the catastrophic earthquake of 7.9 magnitude that hit Nepal on Saturday, April 25th. At this moment, more than 4000 people have been reported dead and the death toll continues to rise. Many of t...

Good evening everyone. I know I haven't posted new stuff in a while and that is due to the fact that I, just like everybody else on campus, have been very , very busy with a lot of homework, assignments and many more things that all college students hate to do. Anyway there is a survey that was brought to my attention by one of the faculty members here on campus and its called the binge drinking survey. Now I would go into details about this survey but the details are in the survey itself. All you have to do is get 5 or 6 friends to do the survey(you can't participate in the survey yourself. Only those 5 or 6 friends you chose can participate in the survey.). here is the link to the survey:http://bingedrinking.elasticbeanstalk.com

One last thing:if you complete the survey you could be eligible to win four prizes of $100. I just want to say thank you for your support and participation in this survey. God Bless and go Trojans.

Good morning Trojans. As we all know today is a very important day in the US and that day is MLK JR. day. This significant day has brought on a lot of meaning over the course of three decades from a day of service to a day of recognizing the legacy of MLK JR and I would like to honor this day by asking as simple.but profound question:What does MLK day mean to you and what is the significance does it have on your life? This question is open for everybody(students, faculty, staff, etc).

Troy University students to celebrate King's legacy through service

TROY - Troy University students will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Jan. 21-24 by taking part in several service opportunities in the surrounding community.

Activities during the week will kick off on Jan. 21 with a special Martin Luther King edition of "Times Talk," a weekly opportunity for students, faculty and staff to engage in discussions on current topics from articles in The New York Times. The event will be modeled after MLK Day America's Sunday Supper initiative, which was inspired by King's legacy and invites people from diverse backgrounds to come together to share a meal, discuss issues that affect their community and highlight the power each individual has to make a difference.

Events will continue on Thursday, Jan. 22 with a Volunteer Fair set from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Trojan Center Ballrooms. The event will help inform and educate students about opportunities to become involved within the community.

Also on Jan. 22, students will assist with meal preparation as a part of the University's Campus Kitchens program from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The University joined the Campus Kitchens Project, a national organization that empowers student volunteers to fight hunger in their community, last fall. Students provide free, healthy meals to area residents by using donated food that would otherwise go to waste. TROY's Campus Kitchens program conducts cooking shifts at Trojan Dining and recovers food from on-campus dining facilities with support from Sodexo-run Troy University Dining Services.

Service projects will continue on Friday with student volunteers reading to children at Troy Elementary School and Head Start, painting and cleaning at the Christian Love Center, delivering meals through the Campus Kitchens program, visiting with residents of Noble Manor and participating with activities with children at the Troy Elementary Extended Day program.

On Jan. 24, students again will fan out in the community to help with painting and cleaning at the Children Advocacy Center and the Boys and Girls Club, assisting with the food bank at the Salvation Army and cleaning and organizing at Big Bend Animal Rescue.

"Dr. King's life was marked by service and involving our students in these service projects is a way of honoring his legacy," said Jonathan Cellon, Coordinator of Service Learning and Civic Engagement in TROY's Schmidt Center for Student Success. "Through the service projects, students will have an opportunity to address some of our community's most critical needs while also learning the importance of serving others."
