Lights ... Boom!
You brain isn't playing tricks on you. … You really do see the sky light up before you hear the β€œboom.” That's because light travels about a million times faster than sound. While light trucks along at a whopping 300,000,000 meters per second, sound chugs at 340 meters per second. To figure out how far away the fireworks are, start counting seconds as soon as you see them light up the sky and stop counting once you've heard the explosion. Divide by 3 and that’s the distance in kilometers.

Have a Happy (and safe) 4th of July! 😎

The first total lunar eclipse visible across the entire contiguous United States since January 2019 will occur Sunday nigh into early Monday morning May 15-16, 2022. Weather permitting this should be quite a show for us with this full "Flower" moon passing centrally through the axis of the earth's v...

Did you know... that concrete continues to strengthen for decades? After four weeks, concrete has reached around 90% of its final strength. It continues to strengthen for decades afterwards, due to the conversion of calcium hydroxide into calcium carbonate, due to its absorption of carbon dioxide over time. Some bacteria also help to strengthen concrete!
