Days before graduation, TROY engineering graduates presented their capstone research projects for local industry professionals and other TROY faculty.

Hunter Holmes developed his research project, the “Godet Test Stand,” while working at Shaw Industries. The objective of his research is to decrease downtime and waste and increase production by developing a method to quickly test failure-prone godets.

Miles Beaty and Collin Paramore’s research, titled “Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting in Footwear for Portable Power Generation,” aims to utilize human motion to generate battery power.

From April 23-25, Troy University’s Department of Computer Science welcomed researchers, educators and students from across the country for the 2026 ACM Southeast Conference. One of the longest-running regional conferences affiliated with the Association for Computing Machinery Southeast Conference, ACMSE brought together more than 50 attendees to discuss emerging research and innovations in computer science and technology.

Representatives from universities across the nation attended the conference, including Auburn University, Clemson University, University of Connecticut, Kennesaw State University, Missouri State University and more.

Congratulations to our first cohort of engineering students as they prepare to cross the stage! 🎓

Last week, Senior Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs Dr. Kerry Palmer, Dean of the College of Science and Engineering Dr. Govind Menon, Department of Chemistry and Physics Chair Dr. Zhiyong Wang, CMMS Director Dr. Raj Vinnakota and engineering Assistant Professor Dr. Shaimum Shahriar addressed the graduates in a special luncheon to celebrate the first graduating class of TROY engineers.

More than 350 local fourth graders attended the 22nd Pike County Groundwater Festival at Troy University last Wednesday. In partnership with the Pike County Soil & Water Conservation District, students compete in an artwork completion, learn about the water cycle, recycling and get up close and personal with wildlife.

Please come out and support Troy University’s Naturalist Club as they hold a plant sale today from 9am-5pm at Terra Cotta Nursery, 351 Montgomery Street, Troy. Proceeds from the sale will help fund club events and projects at the Arboretum.

Troy University’s Center for Relativity and Cosmology hosted the 12th Gulf Coast Gravity Meeting on April 17-18. A regional conference that brings together researchers working in all areas of gravitational physics, both students and postdoctoral researchers contributed talks and presented their work. Researchers traveled from across the United States, Italy, India and Germany to attend.

Student Research Day 2026 was one for the books. With a record number of presentations and posters, our students showed up and showed OUT. From cancer research, to GIS-based automation, snake surveys, a self-tracking smart straw and more, students in the College of Science and Engineering are taking full advantage of the research opportunities available to them.

Thank you to the visitors who came out to learn and show support, and a special thank you to all of the faculty for their instruction, guidance and leadership in making days like this possible!

Troy University engineering students had the opportunity Wednesday to board and interact with the Mayer Digital Command vehicle currently making its way across the South to universities, tradeshows and other facilities. A leading provider of electrical supplies, services and solutions, Mayer, in collaboration with Schneider Electric and others, has outfitted the vehicle with cutting-edge products, solution systems and emerging technologies. Students were able to speak with Mayer professionals, handle the products and ask questions about their uses and processes.
