This one day institute provides updates on funding opportunities related to the HSI designation, strengthens understanding of ways to apply an HSI lens to grant work, and cultivates networks for those with shared interests for pursuing HSI related grants.

🌼 Hispanic Heritage Faculty Highlight 🌼

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we shine a spotlight on the achievements and contributions of our Latine faculty members who are working to make a positive impact or continuing to influence the culture of the university, Tucson and beyond.

Meet Dr. David Garcia, associate professor in the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health and the Director of the Zuckerman Family Center for Prevention and Health Promotion, has designed and implemented trials examining the prevalence of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and associated risk factors in Arizona communities. He has secured multiple grants to support his research, including funding from the NIH and the American Cancer Society. He is also the director and founder of “Nosotros Comprometidos a Su Salud-Committed to Your Health,” a program developed to foster community-engaged research collaborations, service and education. To date, over 6,000 participants have engaged in his research studies focused on MASLD.
