As online scams become more sophisticated—and artificial intelligence makes fraudulent messages, images and information increasingly difficult to recognize—the Arizona Cybersecurity Clinic at the College of Information Science’s Arizona Cybersecurity Academy is taking cybersecurity education directly into the community.

Beginning September 9, the Arizona Cybersecurity Clinic will offer 11 free public sessions at Pima County Public Library branches across the greater Tucson region. The series, Online Safety & Recognizing Scams: Staying Safe in Today’s Digital World, continues through November 19 and is designed to give community members practical tools for navigating an increasingly complex digital landscape.

InfoSci emeritus senior lecturer Rich Thompson discovered the Sonorasaurus thompsoni. 🦕

Throwback to Rich Thompson, discoverer of Sonorasaurus thompsoni in the Desert Museum's paleontology lab in the early 1990s. 🦴

In 1994, Rich, then a University of Arizona geoscience student, discovered fossilized wood, bone fragments, and a large fossilized limb bone while searching for dinosaur fossils. He contacted Desert Museum paleontologist Ron Ratkevich, and together they returned to excavate the site, leading to the discovery of Sonorasaurus.🦕

Hear from Rich this Saturday at our Dino Night themed Cool Summer Nights event and learn about life 100 million years ago, when Sonorasaurus roamed southern Arizona!

Two College of Information Science students earned top honors in the latest Data Visualization Challenge hosted by University of Arizona Libraries, transforming complex datasets into compelling visual stories about political borders and Tucson’s changing climate.

Leo Saginala and Vanishree Venkatachalapathy, both Master of Science in Data Science students, placed first and third, respectively, in the Graduate/Professional Student category. Both developed their projects independently while taking INFO 526: Data Visualization and Analysis with InfoSci Lecturer Anna Leach.
