Native American Advancement & Tribal Engagement Office of Native American Advancement & Tribal Engagement at the University of Arizona.

Launched in September 2020, the office of Native American Advancement & Tribal Engagement’s (NAATE) goal is to increase Native American awareness and increase the health and well being of Native American students, faculty, staff and tribal nations. We recognize and acknowledge the contributions of Native Nations to the University of Arizona community and aim to create a physical space for the Center of Native American Advancement and Tribal Engagement and establish the School of Indigenous Governance and Nation Building. These initiatives will establish new processes and lead the university to becoming the leading institution serving Native Americans.

Councilwoman Herminia Frias from the Pascua Yaqui Tribe presented Arizona Volleyball coach Charita Stubbs and player Renee Jones (Fisher River Cree Nation) with signed volleyballs during the Native American Heritage Game. The volleyballs were signed by various tribal leaders from Arizona's 22 sovereign nations. Councilwoman Frias was accompanied by her niece.

Orange Shirt Day or National Day of Remembrance honors survivors and children who never returned home from boarding schools. Joins us for a series of events organized with campus partners and the Tucson Indian Center on Sept. 30. The day will begin with a blessing at 8:30am followed by a memorial walk on the UA mall. Lunch, speakers, and activities will occur in the Campus Store lower level including remarks by Dr. K. ICYMI Soccer and NAATE debuted a Native American Heritage tee at the game on Thursday, September 10th. The shirts featured "Wildcats" in several Native American languages including White mountain Apache, Paiute, Diné (Navajo), yoeme (Pascua Yaqui), O’odham, and Hopi. The first 100 fans received a free shirt along with the team and tribal flag bearers. We hope to continue to expand on the inclusion of Native American languages in our collaboration with Arizona Athletics.
