“Upward Bound gave me an opportunity.”

And Angel Almazan made the most of it.

As an Upward Bound TRIO alum, Angel experienced what can happen when students are given the support, guidance and opportunity to dream bigger. Today, he’s a student at Yale University, building a future that once may have felt out of reach.

Angel’s story is a powerful reminder that TRIO works. His journey represents what is possible when we show up for students and make sure programs like Upward Bound are there for the next generation.

At the University of Arizona College of Education, we’re proud to be part of that work, helping create pathways to opportunity and supporting students as they discover what’s possible for their futures.

Back in June, we shared College of Education alumna Amanda Leyde’s inspiring story. Now, you can hear more about her journey firsthand! ❤️💙

Amanda is the founder of Summit Dance Company, a space she created to give young people the supportive environment she wished she had growing up. As a busy mom and business owner, she also earned her B.S. in Leadership and Learning Innovation, a College of Education program offered in partnership with Arizona Online.

Her journey is a reminder that leadership can take many forms, and sometimes the next step is simply having the courage to take it.

Amanda’s advice? “Do it. Do it scared.”

A Tucson story with a powerful message.

The Fight for Mexican American Studies in the Streets and in the Courts chronicles the community’s fight to preserve Mexican American Studies in Arizona schools.
