Happy Wednesday!!

Today we highlight something incredibly special!!!

LtCol Nicholas J. Halsmer assumed command of the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 363, Marine Aircraft Group 24, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing this past May 28th in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii

Nicholas was born in Lafayette, IN and graduated from Oral Roberts University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.

Before assuming command, he served in multiple roles and assignments that include participation in Operations OAKEN SONNET, OAKEN LOTUS, and INHERANT RESOLVE, as well as hurricane disaster assistance and humanitarian relief operations in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

Attending his ceremony were his proud "Blue Star"parents, ORU Engineering Professor Dominic Halsmer and his lovely bride Kate.

Congratulation, Nick, we are so very proud of you.

Happy Monday!!

Please join me in welcoming BriGelle Joyner to the ORU family!

BriGelle currently serves as a senior non-commissioned officer in the United States Air Force and has started her Doctor of Strategic Leadership course this summer.

With just under 20 years of service, BriGelle has held a multitude of demanding positions to include a Training Management Section Chief, a Professional Military Education Scheduler, and as a Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the Air Force Training Program.

She earned her undergraduate degree in Adult Education as well as a graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction with straight "As" respectively.

We are honored to have you with us, BriGelle, and look forward to being part of your DSL journey.

Happy Friday!

There are some great things in store for educational opportunities for Department of War Civilians and all military family members here at ORU.

Starting this Fall semester, ORU is offering a 40% tuition discount for our ORU Flex (virtual) for such programs as the Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership, Doctor of Strategic Leadership, Master of Arts in Communication, Master of Divinity with a concentration in Chaplaincy, Master of Education in Educational Leadership, and more.

These two young men, Gilson Lacerda and Tim Hanson have been instrumental in developing the messaging and systems to communicate this opportunity globally.

We will be connecting with this deserving demographic soon and look forward to partnering together to assist in folks realizing their academic goals.

Join me in welcoming a truly impressive member of the ORU Veterans Experience Family.

Retired Army Lieutenant Colonel Rafael Morrison has been accepted into the Doctor of Strategic Leadership program and starts with us in August.

Currently serving as the Senior Army Instructor for the Tara Hale High School Army JROTC Program, Rafael has held command and staff assignments at multiple echelons in his distinguished 24 year Army career.

With roles as a Special Assistant to the Director of the Army Staff at the Pentagon, to Squadron Command at Ft. Hood, Texas, aide-de-camp to the Commander, U.S. Forces Afghanistan, as well as a senior trainer at one of the premier world-wide training centers at Ft. Polk, Louisiana, Rafael has a breadth and depth of experience few in our service can match.

Welcome Rafael, to you and your family! We look forward to seeing what He has in store for you as you grow and develop in the program and eventually your impact for His kingdom

Another welcome to one of our Doctor of Strategic Leadership students, Adebowale Adebiyi.

Adebowale currently serves in the U.S. Army as a Human Resource Specialist, and has over a decades' worth of experience as a recruiter and talent acquisition strategist.

He earned is undergraduate degree in Political Science from Joseph Ayo Babalola University and his graduate degree in International Relations and Affairs from Coventry University.

We are honored to have you at ORU and look forward to seeing the impact you make as you progress and ultimately complete your DSL program.

Happy Friday!

Tomorrow marks the 82 anniversary of D-day, the start of the Allied invasion into Normandy as part of Operation Overlord.

Although the landings took place after midnight on June 6th, the day leading up to it has young paratroopers assembling on the airfields in southern and central England.

13,100 American paratroopers from the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, then 3,937 glider infantrymen, were dropped in Normandy via two parachute and six glider missions. The rest, as they say, is history.

The iconic photo of General Eisenhower addressing troops of the 101st Airborne Division was taken on the afternoon of the 5th at RAF Greenham Common.

Today, we pause to reflect on the heroic actions of these brave heroes.

Happy Thursday!

We continue welcoming new members to ORU's Veterans Experience, a group that consists of students who still serve, have served, and their family members.

Today, we say "hi" to Marine Randy Tran who has completed signing out of the Corps and is finishing up his terminal leave.

Randy serves as a Human Resource Specialist for a Marine Recruiting unit in Kentucky.

He will be starting at ORU this Fall as a Criminal Justice major with the goal of becoming a Tulsa Police Department officer.

Welcome to ORU, Randy! Safe travels as you make the move back home to Tulsa. We look forward to seeing you later this summer before the school year begins.

Randy made it to our weekly Zoom Fellowship this past Tuesday evening and we were excited to connect!

Happy Monday!

Continuing to take a look at our summer students, today we recognize Arkansas Army National Guardsman Malachi House.

Malachi transferred to ORU last Fall after completing courses at East Arkansas Community College and Harding University. He completed his Basic and AIT and serves as a Signal Support Service Specialist. Besides completing summer courses here at ORU, Malachi will also be conducting his summer Annual Training.

Malachi majors in Graphic Design and has fast become a beloved member of the Veterans Experience as well as the ORU community.

Keep up the great work this summer, Malachi!

Happy Wednesday!

We continue with welcoming incoming students to the ORU team today with a shout out to Joel Vander Lugt.

Joel lives in Harrisonburg, Virginia and will be coming to campus in August to start his freshman year studying Business administration.

His dad, Bob is a retired Navy Captain with 28 years of service, is also an ORU alumnus.

Joel will be using VA education benefits to help pay for college costs and we can't wait to welcome him in person on Move-In Day on Saturday, August 15th.

Have a great summer, Joel, and we will see you in a few short months!

As mentioned previously, ORU is blessed to have another record high summer enrollment for our community. Praise God!

Today we recognize Major Chau Tran, currently serving as the Commander, 97th Security Forces Squadron, Altus AFB, OK.

Major Tran graduated from the Air Command & Staff College and holds a Master of Military Operational Art & Science.

He is in his very first course for the ever-growing Doctor of Strategic Leadership program here at ORU.

Welcome, Chau! We are honored to have you in the ORU family and are enjoying watching you grow in your skills to impact the world for His glory.
