No one likes mosquitoes. But here at UTulsa, Assistant Professor Sima Jonusaite, examines how mosquitoes adapt to changes in their environment so we can better understand how to control their population and prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases.

Help us congratulate Professor Eduardo Faingold, a recipient of the 2026 Outstanding Researcher Award.

Since coming to UTulsa in 1995, Faingold has made significant contributions to the fields of language acquisition, language evolution, language policy, bilingualism, linguistic law and immigration and exile. He has published 10 monographs by prestigious academic presses, is the author of 35 refereed papers in tier-one linguistic journals and world-class presses, has produced 12 book reviews by invitation for major academic journals and has presented papers at more than 100 national and international conferences.

Faingold was invited to speak at the United Nations regarding linguistic discrimination, interviewed and featured on numerous occasions by the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and NPR regarding his research.

Robotic dogs, drones and much more! The Oklahoma Cyber Innovation Institute has a new home at 101 Archer in downtown Tulsa, in the heart the city’s technology hub. There, OCII will continue to focus on cyber education, small business cybersecurity services and autonomous vehicles.

Former small business owner, 4.0 GPA, certified financial counselor and audit associate. Zach Payne (BSBA '26) now has another accolade to add to the list: Recipient of the 2026 David R. Lawson Outstanding Senior Award. It's the highest undergraduate honor awarded by the Collins College of Business.

During his time at UTulsa, Payne completed internships with EY and CCK Strategies while serving as a certified financial counselor with Tulsa Responds. Today, he works full time as an audit associate at Conklin, Gilpin & Wertz.

Congratulations, Zach, on this well-deserved recognition!

Reconceptualizing dementia care: What does it mean to remain a person when memory fades? When someone can no longer tell us who they are or what they need, what ensures we still recognize and treat them as a person?

Assistant Professor of Nursing Bill Buron has been advancing how we understand and deliver care to individuals living with dementia, particularly those in the later stages of the disease. In 2008, he launched the first iteration of the Personhood Model for Dementia Care (PMDC).

“This theory-driven, practice-guiding framework reconceptualizes dementia care as an interpretive and relational practice. Its central, grounding premise is that personhood is not lost in dementia. It is either supported or diminished through the actions of others.”

While dementia alters memory, communication and behavior, Buron’s work rests on the idea that the disease does not eliminate the person. Follow the link in the comments to read more about his research.
