Thank you for partnering with us!

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Graduate Student Association for their generous financial support of UALC 2026.

Through this partnership, we were able to meet the practical needs of our presenters and participants. Your support directly strengthened graduate research and community building at The University of Alabama.

UALC '26 opened with our first keynote, Dr. Klingler, speaking on the topic "Bridging past and future: the role of older sources in revitalizing Louisiana French and Creole."

We were honored to have him join us.

INTRODUCING THE UALC 2025/2026 OFFICIALS : Meet our Conference Chair 🤩

Olabayo J. Awodirepo is a PhD student in French Linguistics at The University of Alabama, where his research focuses on Louisiana French and Creole language attitudes among heritage learners in higher education. His academic interests lie at the intersection of language, culture, and identity, exploring how linguistic ideologies shape learning experiences and community belonging. As the Conference Chair for the 2026 University of Alabama Languages Conference, he is committed to fostering cross-cultural and interdisciplinary exchange among scholars and students. Beyond research, Olabayo enjoys surfing the net, writing creative reflections on graduate life, and playing volleyball as a way to unwind and stay connected with others.

INTRODUCING THE UALC 2025/2026 OFFICIALS : Meet our Program Chair 🤩

Lincoln Auvil is a PhD student in French Linguistics. His favorite two fields of linguistics are historical linguistics and syntax, which he has married together in his dissertation topic—the diachrony of _que_-deletion in French. One principal question of his dissertation is whether sentences like "Je pense il va pleuvoir" contains a null _que_ or whether the sentence should be interpreted in another way.

Lincoln has research experience in the acquisition of code-switching constraints and in large-scale etymological analysis. He takes a particular interest in loanwords and in historical movements of linguistic purism, such as in German _Sprachgesellschaften_ ('language societies'). Lincoln teaches FR 101-202 and likes to use classical art in his slideshows, preferring the art movements of Romanticism and Orientalism. His favorite work is _La Japonaise_ (1876) by Claude Monet.
