With just over a week left to submit applications, we wanted to share our 2026 MJW theme: The Right to Write! 📝⚖️

This year, our cohort will produce media that tackles the importance of the First Amendment in student media! Sound fun? Ofc it does! Go fill out your application today!! 💻

Applications are DUE APRIL 1 by 11:59 p.m. CDT! Decisions will be announced via email no later than April 10.

Camp will be held June 7-13, 2026, on the campus of The University of Alabama.

We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of Marie Parsons. Marie was a former director of the Alabama Scholastic Press Association, and a co-founder of the Multicultural Journalism Workshop, now known as the Multimedia Journalism Workshop (MJW), as well as a member of UA’s Journalism faculty.

Marie was known as a lifelong mentor, advocate and friend to everyone lucky enough to encounter her in the halls of Reese Phifer or to work alongside her in the Tuscaloosa community. Her passion for storytelling and education inspired countless young journalists to pursue the careers they are in today.

Last month, Marie was awarded the inaugural ASPA Lifetime Achievement Award at state convention. Her light and infectious energy will be deeply missed. 🕊️

Personal On-Site inquiry forms are open, but registration for traditional on-sites and mini virtual lessons will not open until July. We can’t wait to see everyone this fall!
