The Crimson Tide Battalion

The Alabama Corps of Cadets traces its lineage to September 1860 when the first uniforms graced the university’s campus. Since then, the Crimson Tide of the Army has molded and shaped not only our nation’s military but also the nation itself. The University of Alabama’s program has been responsible for producing: more than 7,500 officers, 42 general officers, 6 Governor

s of Alabama; hundreds of CEOs and Presidents of major companies; and 25 judges. Among the Crimson Tide of the Army’s many distinguished alumni are: Charles W. Vines, commander of the XVIIIth Airborne Corps; John McKinley, former President of TEXACO; Winston Groom, author of Forrest Gump, and Millard Fuller, founder of Habitat for Humanity. This semester, the Crimson Tide Battalion’s Ranger Challenge team had to the opportunity to work with the Alabama Women’s basketball team. In September, we hosted the basketball team at one of our physical training sessions and more recently, they hosted us at one of their basketball practices. The teams are both comprised of athletes in their respective fields and they were able to train with each other and gain a better understanding of what the other team does and how they train. Both teams are made up of students looking to advance their physical abilities and leadership skills.
