Attention all State of Alabama Certified Prescribed Burn Managers!!!

The Alabama Forestry Commission has designed an entirely new online burn permitting system that will now provide CPBMs with useful fire weather information along with their permit information. Please follow the link in our bio to the new permitting portal, which will prompt users to create an initial profile along with a 2-step verification process.

This new system is designed to ultimately streamline the permitting process for applicants and dispatchers going forward. Applicants will then have the option to geolocate their prescribed burn location or manually enter their information, similar to the old system. Once the applicant has entered all necessary information and there are currently no burn restrictions in the permitting area, a burn permit number will be generated and emailed to the applicant along with fire weather information for the permit area.

The new program will also allow the AFC to inform CPBMs of any burn restrictions across the state via email obtained from your user profile. While CPBMs will still have the option to obtain a burn permit via phone, we want to encourage everyone to utilize this new online permitting system as we will be phasing out burn permits via phone within the next 12 months. This will allow AFC dispatchers to focus their efforts on emergency response and fire suppression activities for people in need.

Today marks day one of fire school for Recruit Class 26-02. The class is compiled of 29 eager recruits from 7 fire agencies in our area, including Mobile, Prichard, Theodore-Dawes, Spanish Fort, Saraland, Bayou la Batre, and Daphne.

Over the next 11 weeks, these women and men will undergo high-standard, physically-demanding training to ensure that they are well-prepared to serve their communities with competence and pride.

“It’s like Christmas morning or the first day of spring training. It’s exciting! We’re expecting a lot from them, and they expect a lot from us. Everything we give to these recruits, we hope that they take it with them as a foundation and use it throughout the rest of their careers,” said Training Captain Jonathon Lyles.
